Never Paint Your House Again?

Owning a house is a wonderful thing, but with every home comes the need for routine maintenance and seasonal upkeep. Considering that time is unkind to wood, plumbing, and even concrete, there’s no doubt that maintenance is crucial for protecting your investment year after year. Yet, some first-time home owners are absolutely shocked at the amount of time they spend on their weekends going from the garage to the hardware store, from the basement to the plumbing supply store, and from the yard to the lawn and garden store. And on top of all the items that are continually clogging the honey-do list, there may come a time when you have to get out the ladders, buckets, and brushes and paint the exterior of your home.

Painting a house can be a real chore. The prep work alone (surface cleaning, scraping, caulking, taping, replacing trim boards, applying wood filler, and priming) can take days or weeks. And if you’ve never climbed a 30-foot ladder to paint the trim at the roofline of your house on a windy day, you’re in for a truly unique experience. It’s a good thing many of the big paint companies manufacture 10-15 year paint, because once you’ve toiled in the yard for a few hot weeks in August, lugging a paint sprayer, a roller, and a dozen-or-so five-gallon buckets of paint around, you’ll be hoping you never have to do it again. But for those houses that have traditional wood siding, painting is a necessary chore that protects the siding (and the house) from weather and wood rot. If you’ve ever seen a wood-sided home that looks like the exterior is about to fall apart, it’s probably due to the fact that the homeowners haven’t been scraping, caulking, and painting regularly.

Fortunately, for those who hate painting homes, there is a beautiful and long-lasting solution in vinyl or polymer siding.

Vinyl and polymer siding materials come in hundreds of color choices and never require painting (although the polymer wall system from Continental Siding is actually paintable). Custom colors can even be matched to a swatch or paint chip before the siding is fabricated. And given that a professional paint job can cost a homeowner thousands of dollars, vinyl and polymer siding is a great option for reducing the overall cost of homeownership.

If you’ve ever thought about how your home might be improved, protected, and preserved by the addition of polymer or vinyl siding – and you dislike the idea of edging your way around the outside of the house on a tall ladder while holding a bucket and a paint brush – you may want to consider the long-term benefits that come from adding high-quality vinyl or polymer exterior cladding. Never paint your house again!
