Pros & Cons of Hardie Board Siding

Hardie board siding is a popular type of fiber cement board house siding that offers many pros. However, while this type of siding has its advantages, it’s far from perfect and comes with its share of drawbacks as well. Exploring the pros and cons of Hardie board siding will help you gain the understanding you need to make an informed decision about your home’s siding replacement.

Pros of Hardie Board Siding

First, the pros. Hardie board siding is crafted from a mixture of cement, wood fibers, and sand, giving it a unique makeup and leading to many benefits, including:

• It is impervious to moisture and will never rot or warp.
• It can mimic the look of real wood lap board, cedar shake, and other types of wooden siding.
• It is resistant to insect intrusion and hail damage.

Cons of Hardie Board Siding

While there are clear benefits to choosing Hardie board siding, there are also many factors that will make you think twice about having it installed, including:

• It’s very heavy, which makes having it installed extremely expensive.
• It is not seamless, so there will be unsightly and vulnerable gaps in between panels.
• It’s painted, so it will need to be scraped and repainted when the color begins to fade and chip.
