Continental Siding Named Corporate Citizen of the Year by Truman Heartland Community Foundation

Each year the Truman Heartland Community Foundation recognizes a corporate citizen who exemplifies charitable giving throughout the entire area that they serve. While this area is tremendously giving, they consider it a privilege to recognize the companies whose philanthropy truly makes this area a better place to live and serve. When it came time to name the 2021 Corporate Citizen of the Year, it was easy to see that Continental Siding was the right choice.

Continental Siding is well-known to the Independence area as we’ve been located here for nearly 40 years. Throughout that time, Continental Siding has been a shining example of how generosity and compassion can truly make a business make positive changes throughout the community.

When COVID-19 forced many businesses in the community to lay off employees or shut down completely, Continental Siding owner Alec Cook took it upon himself to continue paying his 200 employees even if they were unable to work. In fact, he went beyond that and even offered an additional $500 bonus to give to someone else that his employees knew were in need.

In addition, Alec Cook worked to find additional resources to help the Independence Chamber of Commerce continue its work throughout the shutdown. To achieve this, he organized a group of Community Leaders and managed to bring in more than $75,000 in annual memberships to help sustain the Chamber.

Whether it be through the annual scholarships he provides to Truman High School or volunteering his time with local non-profits, Alec Cook and Continental Siding are truly worthy of being named the Corporate Citizen of the Year due to the positive impact they have made on the local community.
